The Valuable Perspective of "Team Marco" the Movie!
Way before Covid arrived, Team Marco director Julio Vincent Gambuto was thinking critically around intergenerational relationships, family values, digital media literacy, and issues of loneliness. The film's main character, Marco, 11, is obsessed with his electronics, electing to isolate inside. The effects of this self-imposed quarantine can be felt not only by Marco but his whole family on a social and emotional level. When his grandmother dies and his grandfather moves in, Marco’s life changes. Throughout the film we see a beautiful relationship start to build between Marco and his grandfather as play( a simple game of bocce ball) functions as a vehicle to engage Marco more mindfully with his surroundings and allows him to build new friendships and gain perspective. Free from the confines of the screen and keyboard, he finds value in the everyday ordinary, like sharing a rainbow cookie with your grandfather.
As the holiday season approaches with the first night of Passover coinciding with our viewing of the film, we encourage you to think about the time spent together with family and the role of spirituality and/or religion plays in your life. We ask you to think critically about the role technology and other electronic devices play and factor into your ability to engage thoughtfully and mindfully with those loved ones around you.
