Advancing the Community of Tomorrow (ACT)

Our team leads SEL workshops and sessions
for group leaders & teachers of the
Advancing the Community of Tomorrow program
at St. John the Divine

Founded in 1971, ACT provides a safe haven where toddlers to teens from many faiths, cultures and economic backgrounds gather to learn, play and grow, as they participate in a broad range of programs among highly-trained and caring adults. ACT consistently provides children and their families with high quality services that sustain, support and enhance their ability to thrive in diverse communities. ACT offers year-round, affordable, reliable, nonsectarian and socially enriching educational programs and special events for families in and around the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the world's largest Gothic cathedral.

SEL Workshops and Sessions for Group Leaders & Teachers

The Meeting House will run two sets of six one-hour workshops to build awareness and expertise around social and emotional intelligence.  The primary objectives include developing these skills in adults as well as applying them to specific populations of children that are being taught at ACT from ages 3 - late teens. Additionally, we will facilitate communities for parent support for two discrete groups.

We will also offer six 90-minute sessions designed for group leaders and assistant teachers at ACT.  Educational workshops will be delivered through a team approach that will include social workers, senior educators, and occupational therapists. Core components of the curriculum will include topics such as What is Social Emotional Learning, Social Skills in Action, Universal SEL language, Expected Behaviors, Equity and SEL and RULER.
